Pilot Finds Wind Beneath Wings

Aboard aircraft under fire, combat vet’s belief in higher power strengthens.

His plane seemingly froze in time thousands of feet in the air as white light illuminated in front of him. As gasoline splattered the cockpit of his B-25 aircraft, pilot Glenn Black glanced down at his arm.

While his forearm and bicep remained intact, a stray bullet had blown off his elbow joint.

Hoping to return home and see his wife and newborn child again, Black, a World War II Air Force pilot and 92-year-old Canby resident, began the flight for his life.
