Oregon Health Care Association: “The Power of Animal Therapy in Senior Care”

When the COVID-19 pandemic restricted visitation at long-term care communities in Oregon for over half a year, Activity Directors were forced to think outside the box and find ways to keep their residents engaged. During this time, it was the joy and companionship from animal therapy visits that made a large impact on the lives of residents in long-term care facilities.

“Activity Directors had to get really creative about engagement with animals and creating that feeling of being connected to them. We did all kinds of wonderful things such as streaming dog shows and live zoo cams from around the world.” Lynne Jensen, CTRS, Recreational Activities Consultant, Marquis Companies.
